We walked into the Coast Bastion off the street after a spur-of-the-moment decision to spend the night in Nanaimo. Perhaps we were just lucky, but the checking was all completed in less than five minutes without any prior reservations. The reception staff were helpful, friendly and attentive. Parking facilities are convenient and safe. The room had a great view of the harbour and was large enough to facilitate dinner for two. The bathroom was brightly lit, spotless, and comfortable. We appreciated the attention to recycling and sustainable technologies in the hotel’s maintenance and operation. The twin beds could not be moved together. The doors are of the old, slammable type which caused minor discomfort, as did the float plane traffic that was a bit too audible through the windows. Overall, however, we were happy with the experience.
close to the harbour and shops
We arrived without a reservation, nice staff who managed to find us a room with a view of the harbour. Very nice atmosphere in the hotel, room was large with a good size TV screen (not laptop size!), very comfortable beds, a well designed bathroom with tub and adjustable shower head. Great attention paid to limit waste, such as shampoo/soap containers…fridge was helpful for keeping our fruits cold. Unfortunately, the float planes made a great rucchus on take-off at 7 am, and the room doors could close more quietly, otherwise a really nice mid-size hotel with good parking opportunity. Library, art gallery, museum and excellent shops and restaurants are just a few steps away.
Coast 1st Time
Hotel easy to find / Lobby & Staff were great with service, help & smiles / Minnoz was good for lunch & dinner, service was very slow & staff need to be more observant of their customers when walking the room / underground parks was nice, but can fill up with events & locals for parking & shopping downtown.
Really nice view!
My room was on a high floor and the view was outstanding. I watched the boats and seaplanes coming and going. The sound proofing was great as I never heard any outside sounds unless the sliding deck/patio door was open. The location of this hotel is great. Close to the harbor and close to the main drag.
Great Choice in Nanaimo
This hotel was in a great location – on the marina and within walking distance of the historic district. Our room was clean and nicely appointed with contemporary furnishings and finishes. The bed was comfortable. We had just stayed at the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino, so our standards were pretty high! The Coast Bastion definitely held its own. We also had a terrific breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant. The staff at the front desk and in the restaurant were all great.
