Excellent hotel

Have had nothing but great experiences at this hotel, from the rooms to restaurant. I also attended several conference and meetings at the hotel and they were well organized and well laid out. Catering was fantastic and the staff professional and courteous.

Won't stay again

We were assured upon booking (phone) that we would be booked into the same type of room that was on our profile and the type of room we always request. We clarified the type and location, yet sadly upon arrival we were put into a room that was half the size, not ocean/harbour front, and not even close to the room we had booked and secured via credit card. Unfortunately this mixup was the least of our problems, the room we were given had not been cleaned at all since the last hotel guest. The bed was unmade, towels and bath mats in a pile on the bathroom floor, and garbage was left laying around the room! We complained immediately and were given an apology and the type of room we were supposed to initially get, but it turned out to be the lowest grade of this type of rooms. The view was mostly of the mall parking lot close by, and was so noisy from vehicle noise throughout the night. We have stayed many times previously, but sadly will be shopping for a new favourite location in Nanaimo.

Very nice hotel, great location

Stayed for one night. Very comfortable room. Large flat screen t.v. Large and immaculately clean washroom, well-lit. Staff was helpful in all respects. Close to downtown area and no shortage of eating places relatively nearby. No parking for a large vehicle so the hotel advised me where to park and provided taxi vouchers to and from vehicle.

Return Again and Again For The View

We had a large room with a nice view of the harbour as usual but on a lower floor this time. You can hear the float planes taking off but the sound never bothers us. The room is very spacious with good tv viewing in a separate seating area by the window. Minibar is well stocked in the beginning but rarely stocked after that, so you have to request re-stocking and can make special requests re; the contents. The same goes for the snacks. The room and bathroom are clean and maid service is good. The rooms have been renovated and are very comfortable with a wonderful view of the harbour. The restaurant Minnoz is very good for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also provides very good room service. There is also a separate spa at the hotel which I’ve tried previously and found to be good. The hotel’s location is great for walking along the harbour front with its little cafés and stores along with a restaurant or two. I particularly love the scones at The Tea Room and the muffins at Javawocky are to die for! There is a nice little restaurant in the Marina and the ferry to go to the Dinghy Dock Pub which is excellent for Fish and Chips.
There is also a little Farmer`s Market Friday mornings right across from the street from the hotel on the plaza. Not far from the hotel is the Casino and a small mall. Down the street from the hotel is the Main street with lots of little shops, great cafés and a couple of good restaurants.

The only con for this hotel is the clientele. There are business conferences in the resource industry and also wedding events etc. which may impact maid and room service as well as sleep and relaxation in the evening. When we were there for 10 days, there was a wedding and it got extremely noisy in the rooms with lots of alcohol and some aggressive behavior. I was obliged to sneak out of our room and go to Reception at 1 AM.to request action. The woman at Reception was really good and the RCMP arrived shortly after to evict some of the guests. However, this was the worst situation we`ve encountered after several stays. By the way, this hotel is extremely convenient for the float plane to Vancouver.

Great location updated rooms

I usually fly over to Nanaimo by seaplane. The terminal is across the street from this hotel. Budget rents cars there too so I get the keys but leave it parked there and avoid parking expense until I need the car. The rooms were updated a year or two back and are nice and clean and modern. Especially the bathrooms. Would like this look at home. All rooms have views of the harbour. They have just updated their TVs to 55 inch which is great but their interface is not intuitive at all. The hotel bar is modern and clean with sports on TV and generally good food. There is a mall a block away with a liquor store, grocery store, casino and others assorted stores…Subway etc…
