Do not expect much
Nanaimo is a small city with no options of luxury hotels, this is a 2.5 star at best.
First time EVER for ANY hotel that I was asked to pay an up-charge to change from a double Queen to a King. The hotel was not nearly fully booked and we knew others in our party (wedding weekend) that wanted a Double Queen and got a King.
Recommend; Make room upgrades to exhaust fans and heating units as well as offer room upgrade selections at checkin free of charge like every other hotel.
There is NO secure parking, No gates. It is a public underground lot with 1 security guard patrolling. Not safe, homeless and thieves are free to roam. We arrived at our vehicle after the first night to find someone defecated between our vehicle and the one next to us.

We were only there for one night, the room was a great size and nice to have the view out onto the harbour – it was beautiful. Only downside was the noise in the morning the float planes were nonstop. But that comes with being so close to the ocean. We ate in the restaurant – great food and service. It would of been nice if the front desk and given us the heads up on the 15% coupon they put in the key folder as we didn’t see it till the next morning. Overall a nice hotel and great location on the water.

Loved the view!
Front desk staff exceptional, truly helpful. rooms nice and clean but location and view is what you are paying big bucks for. Overall, has potential but still needs to catch up on their amenities (my room didn’t even have a fridge.
TIP: you are safer to park on the street if you can. was warned about break-ins in the underground parkade and saw someone trying doors when i went down

The first person that checked us in gave us a room on the construction side of the building with a metal structure partially blocking the harbour view we had paid for. However we went right back to the front desk and the second person moved us across the hall to a room with a lovely view. Why did we get stuck in the first room if other ones were available? Anyway it turned out fine. Although the seagulls are VERY noisy early in the morning – sleep with the door closed! The rest of our stay was lovely. My only suggestion would be to renovate the hallways – they’re very dated and dark. Breakfast at Minnoz was excellent.
Good service. Helpful staff. Nice atmosphere. Rooms are tired however Staff make up for it – Fairmont service best western room and quality. Bar is modern and amazing service. Front desk helpful and friendly!
