A good hotel in need of a refresh
This is a good hotel that is showing its age. Its lack of any secure internet option is also a problem. Friendly staff make it a solid choice however. The gym is adequate but a bit of an after thought- older machines and only one treadmill to choose from.
In Nanaimo, this is a great choice.
Was over-nighting on business and stayed at the Coast for my first time, have stayed at others in the chain,so expectations had been set. Did not disappoint,I will be back. Staff was friendly and helpful. The harbour view was lovely.
Superior business hotel
I enjoyed a one-night stay at this downtown waterfront hotel before catching the ferry back to the mainland. My seventh-floor room came equipped with everything you’d expect from a hotel of this standard: two large beds, decent TV, safe, coffee-maker, free wi-fi (no problems connecting) and an ironing board and iron. The partial view of the harbour stretching away to the Coast Mountains on the horizon was a welcome bonus. The downside was the traffic noise from the busy road along the waterfront which kept me awake until after midnight. My dinner in the hotel’s Minnoz restaurant was the best meal I had in a week-long stay on Vancouver Island. Restaurant service at both dinner and breakfast the next morning was friendly and efficient. I would happily stay here again, but would probably forego the view for a quieter room.
Totally rip off
You pull up to the hotel on a busy downtown street with temporary parking for 2 cars. I had to circle the block twice before I could stop to check in. They gave me a parking pass for an underground parking lot a block away. My truck has too high to go into it. Try and back up on a busy street, circle the block twice, and finally get in to be given a parking pass to an open parking lot 3 blocks away. The parking lot looked like the kind of place you’d find your vehicle on blocks with the tires missing in the morning. Finally get to the room, not top floor as requested, and not like the website shows. Small room and only worth half of what they charge. Then on check out I look at the bill and they charged me for the dodgy parking lot! After I worried about my truck getting jacked all night! Avoid this hotel!

Great view and accessible to waterfront
I’ve stayed here before; it’s my go-to place in Nanaimo. Courteous and friendly staff. Comfortable bed, clean room. Lots of good things to say about this place. Parking is a short walk away but entirely accessible without going outdoors, i.e., parkade shared with other businesses. One thing that did kind of annoy me was the desk in the room. Being there on business meant setting up the laptop and the space provided was greatly diminished by the TV that jutted out onto my workspace. I don’t recall that issue in the past so may have been unique to assigned room. I didn’t ask for another room so my bad, I guess.
