Coast Bastion Nanaimo
Would definitely recommend this property to those wanting a clean hotel with a decent view of the water. Staff are very accommodating. Dining room (Minnoz) and the lounge offer great selections for fine dining to a casual meal. Very impressed with the quality of the food.
Great conference venue in downtown location
Only a short walk to shops and the marina walk, this hotel has comfortable rooms, great food, good service and all the amenities of a good hotel. It has been completely updated and the older facade is deceiving. Parking close by and many local attractions in walking distance.

First Class Hotel in Nanaimo!
Third time attending a conference at the Coast Bastion Hotel since 1986. The facility is well maintained would totally recommend to others. Rooms were luxurious, staff extremely helpful, close to the harbor for walking and exploring.
Great hotel with a great view.
I was at this hotel for a convention and the location is great. It is right downtown and by the marina. They even had special fireworks one holiday evening. The staff was especially helpful in getting our luggage (along with boxes) to the car.
Serviceable Hotel, Good Location
Stayed here for a couple of weekend nights in April with a buddy. To start with, I’ll say this; I’ll try to leave my impression of Nanaimo out of this review to the extent possible to be fair to the hotel. The city itself is one of the most depressing places I’ve been in my life… People wandering around with sad looks on their faces as if they were marching to their executions. Tragic. Right out of a really sad novel.
Anyway, the hotel itself is in a good location downtown just a few steps from the seaplane terminal, and only 5-10 minutes to the ferry terminal. Service is good, and certainly at least meets expectations. I was left with the impression that staff were at least trying hard. The rooms and furnishings are at about the 3 diamond level and the building itself could use a bit of a makeover. Compared to other hotels in the immediate area this place looks like the Waldorf Astoria though, so from a selection standpoint, this place is just about it.
If you can get a room here wIthout paying too much more than others downtown, then there really is no other choice in Nanaimo.
Not exactly my most glowing recommendation, but the Coast Bastion has long been really the only game in town, and it’s a clean hotel with friendly staff, but that’s about it.
