Riders aim to hang on for a full 8 seconds in the rough stock events, while ropers and racers are out to beat the clock with the fastest times possible. Another integral event at Frontier Days is the historic Beard Contest. Because of this unique event, Swift Current has become known as the “Bearded City”. It started in 1938 as a way to boost community spirits and attracted competitors from all over the great Southwest. Competitors were required to carry a “Beard Permit,” and the winners were given huge prizes. The contest was even discussed in Parliament in Ottawa as an example of a city working to boost morale. Today, you can choose between three different categories to compete in: best mullet, mustache and beard. So, start growing those beards, mullets or mustaches for your chance to win!
