This summer tested a lot of people in the Okanagan, including one special guest who was supposed to be staying with us.

Chef Ned Bell had a reservation at Coast Capri Hotel the night the wildfire broke out and had to cancel when the highway closed. He never made it to us. Instead, he’s spent the weeks since working alongside farmer Thomas Tumbach and the LocalMotive Farmers Network Cooperative on the Summerland Sauce Project, turning produce that local growers couldn’t sell because of road closures, canceled markets and a quieter tourism season into sauces and preserves so as little of this year’s harvest goes to waste as possible.
