Things to do in Sechelt, BC

Davis Bay

Our Sechelt hotel is situated right on Davis Bay, with its famed strewn-pebble beach and long wooden fishing pier. Walk the paved path and enjoy an occasional rest at one of the benches to soak up the spectacular views. There are almost always windsurfers and fishermen out (you can both fish and swim from the pier!), providing excellent people-watching! At low tide, the beach reveals countless sand bars and tide pools to explore. Also in this area, don't miss visiting the fish hatchery or hiking the short and sweet Chapman Creek Trail to a waterfall.

  • Davis Bay Sandcastle Competition - Every August, one of the most popular local events is the annual sandcastle competition, held in Davis Bay. Remember the sand bars we mentioned that appear during low tide? Well, they're fantastic for building sandcastles! The whole community shows up for the half-day events, which features live music, food vendors, children's activities, and more, in addition to the actual sandcastle competition. The competition is divided into three categories: Families, Children, and Groups. Competitors have 1.5 hours to build.

Porpoise Bay Provincial Park

Less than eight kilometers from the hotel, this provincial park offers year-round recreation on the shores of a scenic, tranquil inlet. Enjoy the easygoing hiking and biking trails through old-growth forest, relax on the beach, enjoy the water by swimming (there's even a roped-off swimming area just for kiddos!) or paddling a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, or simply pack a picnic and spend some time taking in the scenery. The water here is especially calm, making it a boaters' and swimmers' paradise. Local tip: this is a wonderful place to watch the sunset!

Sample Local Brews

The humble little Sunshine Coast is such a robust beer destination that it's affectionately referred to as "The Brewers Coast" by locals. In fact, it even has its own Sunshine Coast Ale Trail, part of the much larger BC Ale Trail. There are several excellent breweries and cideries to enjoy right near The Oceanside Hotel, a Coast Hotel. Some of our favourites include Persephone Brewing, located on a 4-acre farm near where the ferries bring you into Sechelt, Batch 44 Brewery & Kitchen right in town, and family-friendly Brickers Cider Company in West Sechelt.

The Beach Day Restaurant

The Beach Day Restaurant, a fun and innovative "pop-up" concept from the creative geniuses behind Brassica, offers casual dining with some of the best views of Davis Bay. Award-winning chefs Jack Chen and Hilary Prince create "wildly inspired" dishes that focus on fresh local ingredients from both the sea and land, pairing them with tasty craft cocktails. Menu items center around classic comfort dishes with a contemporary flair. Think sockeye salmon served alongside buttermilk waffles, a cold salad consisting of tomatoes and peaches, and ling cod with honey mussels and ham in a cream sauce.

The Sechelt restaurant's patio sits strategically facing west, so you can take in the setting sun as you enjoy your drinks. Lunch, dinner, and happy hour featuring draft beer, wine, and cocktails, along with small bites, are offered Tuesday through Saturday.
