Dr. Henry George Residence

Dr. Henry George Residence, also known as the Dr. George Kemp Historic House, is one of Innisfail’s earliest residences and a Provincial Historic Resource. Built in 1893, the two-and-a-half-storey brick home sits on a low hill overlooking Dodds Lake and features a wraparound verandah, hipped roof and landscaped grounds.

The home is closely connected to Dr. Henry George and his wife, Barbara Mary Bernard George, who both contributed to the development of natural sciences in Alberta. Dr. George used the home as both a residence and medical office and later opened his natural history collection to the public there. Today, the restored house functions as a museum, offering visitors a look at Innisfail’s early history and the people who helped shape science, medicine and community life in the province.
