Hornbeck Cross-Country Ski Area
Hornbeck Cross-Country Ski Area is a good pick when your trip calls for fresh air and a little time on the trails. In winter, this forested area is known for its 37 km of groomed cross-country ski trails, with routes that are well marked and easy to follow. There is enough variety in trail lengths to keep things flexible, whether you want a shorter outing or a longer day outside. The staging area adds a few helpful comforts too, including a warm-up shelter with a wood stove, picnic tables, washroom facilities and parking.
When the snow is gone, the trails shift into a different kind of local escape, drawing hikers and mountain bikers through the warmer months. It is also a nice spot for birdwatching, with forest birds often seen along the way and the occasional moose, deer or elk if you are lucky. Some summer trail access may close at times, so it is worth checking conditions before you go.
