On the way to Waimea Canyon, located in park headquarters about a mile past the park entrance sign, is a small charming museum showcasing the natural and cultural history of Kōkeʻe State Park and Waimea Canyon. You can pick up trail maps for hiking the park and canyon. There is also a gift shop with books, DVDs and other treasures. The museum is free; the suggested donation of $3 covers the cost of running the museum. There is also a restaurant and rest rooms here. Often you can see some of Nene birds, the Hawaii State Bird, in the meadow across from the museum.
