Things We Love to Do in Penticton
We don’t just work here, we live and play here, too. These are some of our favourite spots you won’t want to miss while you’re in town. We’ve highlighted a few well-known attractions as well as a couple of local gems you may not have heard about, but we think are well worth a visit. Need more hints about where to go and what to do? Just ask! We’d love to give you the inside scoop.
Penticton Art Gallery
The Penticton Art Gallery (formerly the Art Gallery of the South Okanagan) is a registered non-profit, charitable organization. The gallery offers the locals of South Okanagan and visitors to the area a wide variety of exhibitions of fine and decorative art from regional, provincial and national sources.
Cascades Casino Penticton
Only a 5 minute walk from the Coast Penticton Hotel. Cascade Casino Penticton features over 400 Slot machines, a great mix of Table Games, the Buffet room with daily themes as well as the Match Eatery & Public House restaurant.
While here you can also visit the BC VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) shop located onsite.
Skaha Lake Park
The Skaha Lake Park offers a variety of year round recreational opportunities, including one of BC’s most beautiful red sand beach, children’s water park, picnic areas, duck pond, etc.
Apex Mountain Ski Resort
Apex Mountain Resort remains one of the hidden gems of Canadian skiing. Located a short 30 minute drive from Penticton, BC, Apex is a full service destination resort with quality snow, great weather, incredible terrain, and friendly people. Apex being located in the heart of the Okanagan Valley, features the perfect mix between large amounts of precipitation and low humidity that makes for the lightest champagne powder snow imaginable. Smiles stretch from ear to ear, as locals and visitors alike hoot and holler amongst the glades & open terrain, leaving clouds of powdery snow to lightly settle behind them. With an average temperature of -4 C, Apex receives about 600 cm of dry “Okanagan” powder each season.
Sun-Oka Beach Provincial Park
One of the most superb beaches in the entire Okanagan, the Sun-Oka Beach Provincial Park is located 10 minutes north of Penticton. The park provides outstanding beaches, waterplay and picnic opportunities as well as spectacular views down Okanagan Lake. As well as a large Dog beach area to the east of the main beach.
Penticton Golf and Country Club
When you play the Penticton Golf and Country Club course, you are playing through a bit of BC’s golf history. The origins of the club go back to a 9 hole course that shared a fairway with a racetrack, located in the area near the intersection of Railway Avenue and Power Street. This course was entirely built by enthusiastic volunteers and maintained by the players. The golf club was founded in 1922.
Ikeda Japanese Garden
The Penticton-Ikeda Japanese Garden provides a peaceful setting in which to take a deep breath and contemplate life; it was created in honour of a relationship between Penticton and the city of Ikeda, Japan. Rocks, tress, water, and plants foster a serene rest-stop for visitors who wish to unwind after an active day of wine touring, golfing or water-sport activities.
This area is well known for its wine—as attested by the over 100 wineries in the Okanagan Valley. Take a tour of a few and raise a glass!
South Okanagan Event Centre
Spanning over nine acres, the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) is part of a larger complex. The SOEC Complex contains over 95,000 square feet of meeting space and three ice sheets. While overseeing the Okanagan’s premier sports and entertainment venue, Spectra Venue Management also manages the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, Memorial Arena, and Okanagan Hockey School Training Centre.
The Bench Market
This delectable restaurant and store was started by two sisters. It’s a fantastic place for breakfast or lunch—or just to pick up a great bottle of Okanagan wine to go.
Penticton Farmers’ Market
From May 4 to October 26, this is the best place in town to mingle and pick up local produce and artisan goods—not to mention enjoy tasty food. A visit to the crepe truck is a must!

Dozens of tribute artists grace the outdoor stages which are set around the picturesque Okanagan Lake, along with special guests – “Friends Of Elvis”. It’s a wonderful weekend of remembering Elvis through his extensive musical library, and touching stories from those who knew him about how he touched their lives.

The 2017 Prospera Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (PGAMO) is more than an epic ride through the heart of British Columbia’s wine country. It’s an entire weekend of cycling, family fun, and Okanagan sunshine.

The Penticton Peach Festival begins on the morning of the first Wednesday after the long weekend in August, (Civic holiday) and runs for 5 days, finishing on Sunday night.
You and your family can expect a variety of activities including the annual downtown Peach Bin races, Shooting Star Amusements midway, square dance festival, sandcastle competition, chef’s cook off, crowning of Miss Penticton, Sheila Bishop Memorial Wooden Bat Slopitch Tournament, PenTown Throwdown Skateboard and BMX competition and Steamfest Regatta.
Our Peter Bros. Grand Parade is one of the largest in BC and there is a kiddies parade for the little ones too!

The multi-platinum Irish group celebrates it’s 10th anniversary with a North American tour of 75 cities across the US and Canada, which begins this fall. Celtic Thunder X will hit the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton on Thursday, November 1st.
