The Space Needle is perhaps the most important landmark in downtown Seattle. Originally erected for the 1962 World Fair, it was the tallest building West of the Mississippi at that time. It was built to stand up through extremely high wind speeds, and even strong earthquakes. Just taking the elevator up offers a great view of the city, and if you have a couple of hours, be sure to check out the rotating restaurant at the top which is set to re-open in May 2018.
