Celebrate Harvest Season in Kelowna

Celebrate Harvest Season in Kelowna

27/09/2018

Fall is a beautiful time to experience British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, especially as harvest season approaches. Crisp air, vibrant fall foliage, and bountiful crop are some of the reasons why this time of year is fantastic. If you’re looking for an abundance of fresh fruit, flowers, and festivals then you must visit Kelowna! Kelowna is famous for its amazing wineries, locally grown fruit and produce. Plus, the best part about visiting in fall is that you don’t have to compete with the summer crowds. Here are some ways you can see, taste and celebrate a hearty season in Kelowna.

Grape Harvest

The Okanagan Wine Festival

Trying to pick between wineries may be a daunting task with so many impressive winemakers in the region. Luckily each season is celebrated with special festivals like the Okanagan Wine Festivals so you can taste your way through the Okanagan Valley. This year, the fall festival will run from September 27 to October 7 and will feature great events like wine tastings, an apprentice chef competition, wine and cheese pairings, live music, presentations, and plenty of delicious food and drink.

Winery Tours

Even if you're not able to make it to the festival, you can still enjoy the grape harvest by visiting local Kelowna wineries and vineyards. Here are a few of our favourite wineries:

  • Cedar Creek Estate Winery: One of the oldest wineries in Kelowna, this award-winning winery has vineyards dating back to the 1930s
  • Summerhill Pyramid Winery: True to its name, this winery is known for its giant pyramid, which is used to age their wines.
  • Quails’ Gate Estate Winery: This winery has been family owned and operated since the 1950s, and their restaurant has been voted one of the best 100 restaurants in Canada.

Fun on the Farm

Fall isn’t complete without a visit to the farm, and there’s nothing that puts you in the spirit when you see where your food comes from. Check out farms like Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm, Arlo’s Honey Farm, and McMillan Farms, and you’ll be treated to barrels of freshly picked apples, baked goods and drinks, tractor rides through the pumpkin patch, corn maze races, and you can even see a honeybee dance or learn to make your own lavender wreath.
