Yellowknife is both the capital of the Northwest Territories and
'Diamond Capital of North America'. It is located on the north
shore of Great Slave Lake, at the mouth of the Yellowknife River.
Yellowknife is a culturally rich city, thriving with diversity and
is home to over 18,000 people. Yellowknife is a city immersed in
history, culture, adventure and prosperity. Yellowknife is a city
of contrasts. High rise towers overlook the rustic heritage

Within Yellowknife tourist attractions you can find a variety of
activities or adventures to make your stay a memorable one. If
boating is your passion Yellowknife has four months of open water
from June through September. With summer days enjoying 18 to 20
hours of sunlight and Great Slave Lake and hundreds of smaller
lakes right on the doorstep, you can enjoy a lot of time on the
water. Rent a canoe or kayak; windsurf on Back Bay, charter a
motorboat or a sailboat. You can go fishing with a guide, or take a
dinner cruise on one of Yellowknife’s fully equipped
tour boats.
If winter activities are more to your liking Yellowknife has
numerous activities to warm the heart of the cold weather
enthusiast. Soar across a snow-covered lake behind a dog team or
drive a snowmobile on a daylong trip through the forest and across
lakes to a cozy lodge or camp. Unwind by the campfire, sit back,
relax and wait for Mother Nature’s most spectacular
light show, the Northern Lights. Yellowknife tourism boasts being
the best location in the world for viewing the Northern Lights
(aurora borealis). As the nights grow longer, the green, red and
mauve lights of the aurora borealis are absolutely brilliant as
they dance across the sky.
