We’ve highlighted a few well-known attractions as well as a couple of local gems you may not have heard about, but we think are well worth a visit. Need more hints about where to go and what to do? An absolute must-see, this world-renowned garden features 22 hectares of spectacular floral displays. A great place to take some special vacation photos.
Royal BC Museum
This museum showcases human and natural history of British Columbia and other cultures around the world. Be sure to check back often to learn about special exhibitions.
Stroll along the docks and enjoy ice cream, whale watching, and lots more. A great way to take in the feel of the city.
Check out the fun boutiques, grab a bite, and kick back in the market courtyard for great people-watching. The Market Square is set on the site of historic Fort Victoria.
Victoria’s China Town
Victoria’s Chinatown is the oldest in Canada and second oldest in North America, after San Francisco’s. This vibrant area is rich with history.
Centennial Square Ferris WheelDec 9, 2013 — Dec 22, 2013
The DVBA ferris wheel is back in Centennial Square for five weekends this holiday season. See Victoria from 65 feet up on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays. Rides are $2. Presented by the Downtown Victoria Business Association. Fridays, 5 – 10pm | Saturdays noon – 10pm | Sundays noon – 8pm.
*Please note: On the first day (Saturday, November 23) rides will begin at 4pm
Canada’s National Gingerbread ShowcaseDec 9, 2013 — Jan 6, 2014
Feast your eyes and nose on creative inspirations constructed from gingerbread. More than just houses, they are detailed sculptures and unique works of art created by professional and amateur chefs. Vote for your favorite and make a donation to Habitat for Humanity Victoria. A spirit rousing experience, the gingerbread creations will leave your mouth watering and your eyes wanting more. November 24, 2013 – January 06, 2014 – 9:00 am – 9:00 pm daily.
Butchart Gardens Holiday Lights ToursDec 9, 2013 — Jan 4, 2014
You’ll travel by motorcoach to one of Victoria’s most famous attractions – Butcharts Gardens! In December and early January tens of thousands of coloured lights combine with evergreen swags and wreaths of holly and winter berries line the walkways and festoon lamp posts. Wander through colourfully lit walkways and the ever-popular Twelve Days of Christmas displays, that will put you in the Holiday Spirit. Within the Gardens you will find lively performances featuring traditional caroling and music, and enjoy some recreational ice skating on the outdoor ice rink! It’s a spectacular display of holiday cheer and a great way to spend the holidays with your family! Tours do not run on December 25, 2013. Advance bookings required.
Bear WearDec 9, 2013 — Jan 2, 2014
The holiday teddies are back! For the 13th year, Bear Wear, a fundraiser for Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, is on display in the lobby of the Hotel Grand Pacific. The bears are dressed up by local businesses and individuals. Vote for your favourite ($2 suggested donation) as many times as you like — the more times you vote, the better your chances at winning that bear in our raffle. Funds raised at Bear Wear will support the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, formerly the Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children.
Victoria Festival of TreesDec 9, 2013 — Jan 7, 2014
Every year, Victoria Festival of Trees transforms The Fairmont Empress into a lush forest of beautifully decorated trees to raise funds for BC Children’s Hospital. Sponsors, local businesses, organizations and individuals of this event come together and decorate trees – in a sometimes wacky, often irreverent and always beautiful fashion. These enchanting trees are then displayed throughout The Fairmont Empress over the holiday season.
Victoria Horse-Drawn Trolley ToursDec 9, 2013 — Dec 22, 2013
Two horse-drawn trolleys will circle the downtown on Saturdays and Sundays beginning November 24. Hop on or off at four downtown stops: Store Street at Ocean River Sports; Johnson Street at Willie’s Bakery. Langley Street across from Rebar, Government Street at CRD Plaza. Rides are free, compliments of the Downtown Victoria Business Association. Saturdays, noon – 4pm & Sundays, noon – 3pm.
Christmas Starlight CinemaDec 9, 2013 — Dec 18, 2013
The ultimate Christmas date night tradition (for the family) returns! This year, bundle up the family to enjoy a Victoria Christmas Tradition – Christmas Movies under the stars on Victoria’s beautiful Inner Harbour. Visit the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort every Tuesday and Wednesday in December and cuddle up to your loved ones for your favourite Christmas show. The hotel supplies the heaters; bring a lawn chair & extra blankets! Show time is 6pm. Movies are FREE; donations to Santa’s Anonymous are greatly appreciated.
