Dependably excellent... despite the broken elevator :S
Perefect, clean, modern stopover for the business traveller… Well-situated downtown, on the waterfront, within walking distance to numerous “Old Town” shops and some of Nanaimo’s best restaurants… including the off-the-beaten-track gem – The Nest Bistro. Mid-week, it was no great inconvenience that the elevator was down for repairs and waiting for parts… not sure how that would go down in a busy summer weekend! Ian and Jack, at the front desk, are truly professional concierges. Sometimes they even remember my name from stay to stay…
Rainy stay brightend by great staff
Really enjoyed our recent stay at the Coast Bastion Hotel. The room was bright and comfortable with a great view of the harbour. My husband was at a conference while I had some time to shop and go to the spa. The day of my planned walk about in the art district area it rained. I had no problem with the weather because I was able to borrow an umbrella for my excursion. All the staff I encountered during my stay were cheerful and helpful. The spa, while not world class, was very nice. The girls sweet and competent with services. The lounge and restaurant staffed with fun people serving good food and drinks. Especially the Nanaimo bar cheese cake, so tasty. Eating breakfast alone, I was made to feel comfortable and never lacked for attention. Just one fly in the ointment, one of the elevators was out of service the weekend of our stay and this made for some crowded rides. Mind you the place was buzzing with Christmas parties and those crowded elevator rides could be quite interesting.

Poor High Speed Internet, signifcant street noise, cold room with no temperature control knobs on heater
If you need High Speed Internet for business purposes DO NOT STAY there. No Hard connection and wireless speeds of less than 1MB make doing business which require e-mail or file transfers is not possible. When staff was asked why its so slow I got the stock answer, we are full and there must be a lot of people in the hotel using the service. At 4:0 am it was not any better! It was suggested to come down to the lobby and work.

Poor service in the resturant
Very bad service during the breakfast time while on my stay . Waited 15 mins for coffee and to order once seated , meal took forever and had a hard time paying $16 dollars for cold eggs – the lady that waited on us was in the wrong role , she must of been our late the night before – horrible service , go elsewhere
Excellent Place to stay in Nanaimo
We spent 3 days at the Coast Bastion Hotel, the room was sparkling clean, the view of the ocean wonderful, the staff helpful and friendly, it was an excellent choice.
We were at a conference so the meals were included, we were really impressed. The food was cooked to perfection, the steak dinner served at the ball was superb!
This hotel exceeded our expectation, we would highly recommend it if you are looking for a place to stay in the heart of Nanaimo.
The only negative was that one of the elevators was not in service.
