Wonderful Hotel in a fantastic location

We booked online and then called ahead for an early check in, the staff were accommodating and friendly.

Our room was on the 15th floor and had an amazing view (even in stormy weather)

The room was updated and spotlessly clean, we chose the Premium room with a king size bed and the small up charge was worth every penny.

The location is great with wonderful locally owned stores just around the corner

The only detail that was not perfect is that we found the front desk understaffed and waited ten minutes at check in and another ten when we had a question to ask.

We would absolutely recommend this hotel

Great location

Nanaimo has great shops and boutiques and a wide variety of ethnic choices, although we didn’t see too much in the way of sophisticated dining or drinking. The hotel is right in the middle of what action there is with lots of water views. Coast Hotels are always very friendly and appeal to families and business people.

The restaurant was friendly and very comfortable with a nice varied menu. It’s not the white tablecloth level, but it is good and offers bar food up to nice entrées and the prices are ok too.

The hotel came with a giant flatscreen TV and the most comfy bed in the world. We had a mini-balcony and could open the sliding door for air which was nice. There was only one armchair, which would have been inconvenient if we had been staying a while or expected to have company.

It was good value, except I hate paying for parking. Some people would have come by plane but I would think most came by car, so I would like to see that built into to cost of the room. Coast always tries hard and we appreciated that. Also very fast elevators!

A Nice Room with a Fine View

We stayed in room 1101, a “superior queen partial view,” for 5 nights while attending a convention at the Conference Center. We enjoyed the spaciousness of the room, the Starbucks coffee, and the layout & amenities of the bathroom. Appreciated that 2 spa bathrobes were provided. We used the workout facility which was decently equipped but like many, in need of a bit more maintenance (squeaky pedals on the elliptical rider, seats difficult to adjust, and the like). The hotel is ideally located in the central core, and we were able to walk to local eateries and cafes, and over to a nearby shopping mall. Our view was of the south of the harbor, and we enjoyed looking out the window. The soft mattress was a bit of a surprise, but we quite enjoyed it by the 2nd night. Didn’t eat in the restaurant or bar, or use room service.

A View with a Room

For a small upgrade cost we ended up with a king size bed and a panoramic view of the harbour. What a treat, so active during the day, float planes, ferries, water taxis, fishing boats, sailboats, two beautiiful islands minutes away, both short water taxi rides, with hiking trails and camping. The room was very sweet, with a small balcony. They recycle, only wash the towels you indicate as used, only chage the bed every third day unless you indicate you wish a change more often. The Murrano Restaurant was very good, well priced and the food was excellent. We were there to see a Boz Scagg’s concert in the Port Theatre, a great venue, and you can connect to the thratre thru the parkade, very convenient. Close to restaurants and shops in the downtonw core, great location. Great staff!

Better than expected

I was expecting an old-style Holiday Inn (don’t know why), but the Coast Bastion was well beyond that. The ocean-facing room was huge, with a beautiful view of the harbor and beyond. The room itself was extremely nice and comfortable. It is obvious from the exterior that hotel is older, but the room had been upgraded and didn’t appear old at all. Parking is a nuisance as you have to drive behind the hotel into a cramped parking garage. We had a hard time finding a vacant spot. There was a ‘Roaring 20s’ party in the hotel the evening we checked in, so maybe that was the problem. The party made for a crowded and noisy lobby, but we were able to check in fairly quickly. We usually stay in B&Bs if available, but we were very glad we chose the Coast Bastion. Will stay there again if we’re lucky enough to come back.
