Coast Bastion Hotel
The Coast Bastion was a great place to stay , very clean rooms , very quiet considering it is right on the waterfront in downtown Nanaimo. Loved that you could walk out the doors and be in the heart of everything. They have small balconies that you can step out on and smell the ocean , you can also see the boats in the harbor if you happen to be on that side of the hotel . Also I could not get wifi to work, (my computer issue) …the hotel had someone spend 45 minutes getting it to connect… very very impressed with their level of customer service.
Stayed at the Coast Bastion this past weekend as I was there for a work event. The hotel is located directly across the street from the water, and the wonderful seawall/harbour area of downtown. I asked the staff at front desk where to go for a run and he helped me out with a direction and general route. Check in was prompt, check out was effortless and all staff encountered were friendly. Parking was less than 10 bucks a day, and included in and out privileges, so no complaints there either.
I had a premium room, with a harbour view and it was magnificent. The higher the better, but even on the lower floors, I would imagine it was great. Bed was comfortable, quite firm, but had a soft touch to it. Bathroom was bright and clean. Nicely renovated. The only quibble I have is that the water pressure in the shower was very lacking… no matter which setting I tried on the shower head. I’m guessing that’s more a city issue than a hotel operator issue, but that’s about the only thing I can say wasn’t great.
If you are in Nanaimo for a stay, I would recommend this hotel.

This was a very nice hotel to stay at. The rooms were clean and well appointed. I did not see any safety concerns. We parked in the attached public garage but the hotel gave me the parking passes (do not buy them when you park). The only strange event was the maid moved my toothbrush – I thought that was gross; however, I everything else was great.
Great staff are the plus!
I can not recall ever being in a hotel without bar soap. The Coast Bastion offers large bottles of various bath type lotions, but not soap. Is this a new trend in the industry. The bed was comfortable, and the heater/air conditioner, worked just fine. The space where there had been a mini fridge, was just that, a space.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The $8.50 charge for parking is totally unnecessary.
Nanaimo generally, only comes to life on Friday and Saturday night.
Worth a Stay!
My wife and I stayed at the Coast Bastion for 2 nights whilst attending a concert by The Irish Rovers over St Patrick’s Day at the Port Theatre. The Theatre itself was next door which made it convenient. Everything about this hotel was great. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Parking is onsite. Free FAST Internet and the rooms very clean and comfortable.
