Coast Capri Hotel
We arrived for a work trip, check-in was smooth, staff friendly.
Arrived to our room and the disappointments began. The rooms are “ok”, but you can immediately tell this is a very old hotel that has received a moderate face-lift. The beds are the only somewhat decent thing about this hotel. Oh, the breakfast in the morning isn’t bad.
The walls are paper thin. We could hear the teenage boys in the next room like they were sitting on our beds. The noise that starts at around 8am and goes through to the late afternoon can only be described as a time machine taking off, which we deduced to be the vacuum cleaner. You can hear other people peeing in the rooms beside and above you. The noise from outside is loud, distracting, and lends to the theory that the walls are made of rice paper. The cupboards smell like old lady closet. The balcony slopes so badly that you fee like you’re going to fall off when you step outside. The bathroom fan didn’t work – I’ll leave the problems associated with that up for readers to conclude. Housekeeping would make the beds and replenish the toiletries, but didn’t take out trash (including wine bottles, water bottles…why would we want those?).
We did not get a chance to check out the pool or hot tub, we did see some people using it and it looked clean.
I did find out that this is a pet-friendly hotel, which is nice to know…however, at over $200 a night there is no way I’d stay here again. It is NOT worth that price. Unless of course you feel that noon check-out is worth $200.
Pleasant experience — upgraded our room on arrival – fantastic!!!!! Rooms very comfortable and clean. Pleasant staff on arrival (September 6 – 10). Thank-you J. Gavin Parry for the complimentary fruit platter. Complimentary breakfast very appetizing. Definitely would stay again during my next trip to Kelowna.
Amazing Food at Wedding Reception
I spent two night staying at the Capri hotel along with lots of other family and friends for my daughters wedding. It was the perfect place for all of us to get together and get ready for the wedding. The wedding reception was held at the hotel in the horizon room, it was the perfect size for 65 people and all our rooms were close by. The presentation of food as well as taste and quality was amazing and delicious. All our guests raved about the wonderful meal and the service provided by staff. A breakfast buffet came complimentary with the rooms and it was wonderful as well with lots of selection, and gave us all a chance to meet in the morning to enjoy another meal together. I would highly recommend this hotel for any special function.
Location Location Location.
Booked into this by our agent at Trailfinders so can’t really blame the hotel for being what they are. However if travelling to see the beauty of British Columbia and Alberta what we didn’t want be confronted by after a 250mile car journey from Banff was a drab looking hotel on the side of a 3 lane highway located in a parking lot about a 20-25 minute walk from town but that’s what you get. Inside the hotel itself is more acceptable and the room we were allocated on the 4th floor was good, clean and the beds comfortable and with a small balcony even if that did overlook the car park. However despite the friendly staff it’s all very corporate with no real soul about the place. Good for a business overnight stay but not what we were looking for as a holiday venue.
One major gripe. The hotel’s web site makes a virtue out of saying that they take care of all the little extras such as providing a complimentary breakfast. Except that they don’t . Apparently this is only to guests who book direct with them. If you book through an agent it is likely that the package arranged will be without breakfast and then you end up with an embarrassing situation where you start your breakfast and are then asked for your voucher. If you don’t have a voucher you pay. In our case this led to a very awkward encounter which was then handled very well by the manager in charge who offered us a complimentary breakfast for that day. Note to senior management don’t put your guests and staff in such a position. Change your web site to reflect the truth. At best it’s disingenuous and at worst misrepresentation.
If walking into town or the beach area take the back streets about two to the left of the highway and you’ll come across the ‘heritage’ area. A much more pleasant and quieter walk.just be prepared to do the walk or take the car if you can’t face it.
Apart from the beach and lakeside area our opinion is that Kelowna town has nothing much to offer the casual tourist.
Great place to stop
This is an ideal hotel if you are travelling between Banff and Vancouver. It was a good choice in a nice area. Would stay there again as there are plenty of things to see and do especially the wine tours. The room that we had was over looking the pool with a balcony, the only down fall was a group of people that were on a conference or something like that were very noisy and were using bad language and there were children in the pool area. When we mentioned this to the hotel staff they weren’t that interested. We had an issue with the evening meal as the chicken wrap was described as hot when it arrived one half of the wrap was cold, when we complained, the waitress said this is how it should be!! My wife requested an alternative dish and the staff were very put out by this. The breakfast was included in the price and was very good.
