Coast Discovery Inn and Marina
Not oceanfront like a lot of hotels in Campbell River, but in the heart of town, walking distance to shopping and dining. Room was comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and accommodating. This was our second time staying here and will happily return.
My stay was too short for this coast hotel.
The buffet breakfast had all the usuals plus scrambled eggs, cubed fried potatoes, ham, oatmeal. Yummmm.
The building appears to be older but very clean. I would return.
It’s on the ocean and is a marina as well.
We spent a night here in a “tower” room- top floor, south corner, nice view. We felt we got very good value for the nightly rate, which included a hot breakfast. Eggs, sausages, potatoes and juice, cereal and other items.
The front desk could not have been more helpful, allowing us an early check in and generally being very friendly.
Yes, as others have mentioned, the hotel is a bit tired,. but the room and public areas are clean and the staff is friendly.
For a one nighter, it fit the bill.
A Tower room
The room is a little on the small side but it is both clean and comfortable. We spent a few nights here and the view out the window is magnificent, any bad points are forgiven on that basis. It is nice to watch the cruise ships all lit up at night as they sail past. The reception staff were friendly, helpful and good at their job.
Little to like
Found this hotel to be a very poor representative of the Coast brand. My room was down a dated corridor behind the front desk, Felt like I was on my way to the boiler room. The room itself (queen comfort room) was the smallest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in, very disappointing. Chipped paint on ceilings and baseboards, paint chips on all furniture, huge heater vented to outside that was so loud. Lots of small details as well, like not being told wifi password upon check-in or having on display in room, towels were tiny, and the nice little instruction sign for the coffee maker was useless as it was for a completely different brand of coffee maker, they looked nothing alike and it was very difficult to figure out. No functioning restaurant in the hotel. Also, found I left my lights on on my car and the battery was dead, any other Coast hotel would have immediately offered some assistance to help out at 4:10pm on a Tuesday, here, was just told to go to the local gas station to see if they could help. When I told the front desk that I’d wait until the morning and see if their maintenance could help, she seemed quite eager for me to go out somewhere that night and sort it out myself.
I’ll also note that when I tried to book with their central reservations (find the hotels direct number was impossible) they had no record of the corporate rate I was going to be using. Had to call the local business and have them contact Coast directly. Terribly inconvenient.
If I had to think up any positives, the coffee (once I figured it out) was the best cup of in-room coffee I’ve ever had, and the bed was not terrible.
Would not stay here again, would chose a local motel instead. Dampens my impression of the whole Coast chain.
