Better than our initial impression
When we first arrived we thought it looked okay but nothing special. We were arriving early so fully expected that our room would not be ready. To our pleasant surprise our room was ready. We had been travelling in very wet weather so some of the planned stop offs were postponed. We arrived at just about lunchtime and were told lunch could be obtained in the bar. So having taken our luggage to a good spacious and well appointed room we went off to the bar. Choice of lunch there was very good and the young lady running the bar could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Food quality was very good as was the service. It was certainly good value, larger than we expected. Sadly when the bubbly young lady running the bar went of duty she was replaced by a rather morose barman which was a shame. The day continued to be very wet so we chose to eat dinner in the bar again, the rather morose barman had by the been replaced by a very friendly lady we were pleased to note. Our evening meal was again good quality and good value. We went for continental breakfast the next morning which is all we could manage, sadly the choice was quite limited which was a bit disappointing following our experience of lunch and dinner. All in all a well appointed hotel just outside Revelstoke. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming.
A Great Place To Stop On Your Tour Of The Rockies
Revelstoke was our second stop on a drive from Calgary to Vancouver, across the Canadian Rockies. Revelstoke itself is a typical Western town, this hotel is about a mile out of town at the end of a road leading off Route 1, the main road from East to West across the Rockies. The situation of the hotel is delightful, it is surrounded by pleasant gardens and the hotel itself is great.
The staff are al extremely welcoming and helpful, the bedrooms are very well equipped, outside the bathroom there was a table and lighting which my wife thought was wonderful for ladies; the evening meal we had – on a Saturday evening – was very good, it won’t ever get a Michelin Star, of course, but that’s not the point here, what we wanted was good honest cooking, and we got it in spades…well, not quite right, they did serve it on plates and so on!. Breakfast was pretty good as well.
All in all, this place is the perfect stop on a journey across the region; it would also be rather nice for a stay which had been a bit longer than overnight. There appeared to be quite a lot to do and see in the Revelstoke area.
I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. The only downside was the preponderance of creepy crawlies trying to get into the bedroom via the windows, despite some obvious security measures some of them succeeded. They were quite large and looked menacing, but we were assured that they were “stink-bugs” and were completely harmless, which we discovered was quite correct.
But don’t let that put you off, this is a great hotel.
My place to stay in the Canadian Rockies
The Coast Hillcrest is a pleasant oasis just east of Revelstoke. Great rooms, staff, food and drink are 4 season positives. Try it out. The icefields at the top of the mountains from the balcony and dining room are very picturesque. The bar is warm and friendly. Try the helicopter-skiing during the winter, take lots of pictures.

Great Food and a Great View
The only thing better than the view from the well appointed mountain view rooms is the dinner menu! Staff is friendly and the property clean and well cared for. Some issues with the noisy fan in my room.
Friendly, helpful staff
Peaceful, tranquil setting. Clean room, comfortable beds and nice view. Breakfast is not included but they do have a restaurant. We had dessert in the restaurant and it was very good.
We were just passing through and did not arrive at the hotel until after 8 pm and did not have a reservation. The person at the front desk looked for the best rate for us and gave us a free upgrade. It was the sensible thing to do – what are the chances they were going to fill up all their rooms at that time of night. It made us feel good about the place – not only does it look nice, in a nice location but the staff are nice too.
The front desk person told us we could smoke on the balcony but luckily we read the binder in the room first and found that there is a $300 fine for smoking on the balcony. Maybe they don’t enforce the rule but we felt it better to use their smoking area which was very nice too.
